Horror accident leaves three dead in Inanda

The vehicle rolled several times down a steep embankment.

THREE people have been killed after a taxi rolled down a steep embankment in uMzinyathi Inanda on Thursday afternoon. According to Netcare 911 spokesman Chris Botha, two women and a man were killed while around 16 people have also been injured. Botha added that the all the doors of the taxi were ripped out in the crash.

Kyle van Reenen of Crisis Medical said various ambulance services were on scene.

“The cause of collision is unknown at this point. The taxi rolled down the embankment and came to a rest on its roof near one of the homes in the area. Six people sustained minor injuries while 10 others were moderately injured. It appears the taxi driver lost control on a bend, rolling down the embankment – the deceased were ejected from the vehicle in the roll-over,” he said.

Earlier today in a similar accident in Inanda, 16 people were injured after a taxi lost control before crashing into a ditch at a sugar cane field.

This accident brings the total number of people injured in three separate taxi related incidents to a staggering 40.
