Two arrested in Glenashley after foot chase

The suspects were previously arrested for trespassing.

TWO people were arrested in Glenashley this morning by Durban North SAPS. Station spokesman, Capt Raymond Deokaran, said the men were arrested after police attempted to stop them. The suspects tried to avoid arrest and were nabbed after a short foot chase along The Promenade.

“These men have been previously arrested for trespassing and today we spotted them along the Glenashley beachfront where there have been a number of break-ins. The men were found with several cell phones. We are profiling the suspects who may be linked to the various break-ins in the area,” he said.

“We were conducting a cordon-and-search in the area which is part of an ongoing initiative to root out vagrants from the area. We also checked out the thickets around Beachwood but found no settlements. We have received complaints from residents in the area and we believe there is a criminal element among some of the vagrants,” he said.

Last week, a Glenashley homeowner was confronted by two men who tied him before ransacking the house.
