WATCH: Vehicle convoy pays special tribute to Neil Powell

Emotional memorial service held for former CPF member, paramedic and community stalwart.

SEVERAL emergency service personnel, SAPS, CPF members and local residents took part in a special tribute to Mount Edgecombe resident, Neil Powell, who died last Friday. A vehicle convoy was seen in the streets of Durban North paying tribute to Powell. The drivers of the vehicles drove from Immanuel Church in Somerset Park, where a memorial service was held for the 34-year-old, to the bottom of Fairway where Powell was first stationed when he began his paramedic business, Crisis Medical.

Powell, was a member of the Durban North/uMhlanga CPF as well as the Crisis Team.

Haden Searles, chairman of the Durban North/Umhlanga CPF said the service was emotional adding that he was touched by the gesture from Powell’s counterparts in the emergency services field.

“I had to give one of the eulogy’s today and it was deeply emotional. He really had a passion for the community. He made an impact in so many peoples’ lives. It was such a lovely gesture seeing the vehicle convoy drive from the church through Durban North to Fairway where Neil’s first satellite station of Crisis Medical was based. He was always willing to go the extra mile and we are going to miss him,” Searles said.

Dean Macpherson, Powell’s former business partner said Powell was a hero and stalwart of the community.

“He was a true hero in every sense of the word. His love for people and his dedication to our special community will be sorely missed. He leaves a massive vacuum which will not be easily filled but offers us a beacon to guide our lives towards where we puts others first. I am so proud of what this superman achieved during his short life. He truly made every second count,” he said.
