Glenashley community honours security officer
The reaction officer escaped unscathed in the shootout on Adrienne Avenue.
RESIDENTS of Glenashley showed their appreciation for Blue Security officer, Luvuyo Mazaleli who was involved in a shootout with armed robbers in April.
Mazaleli escaped unscathed in the shootout on Adrienne Avenue which saw 17 shots being exchanged. Several residents gathered at a park close to where the incident took place to hand over a token of their appreciation.
Glenashley resident, Janine Axelrad, said one of the members of their security WhatsApp group suggested doing something for Mazaleli.
“I can’t take credit for this initiative, a man called Chris had the idea. As a community I feel it’s important to honour his bravery. He didn’t need to put himself in the line of fire, yet he did.

“We can’t really thank him for what he did but this was a token of our appreciation. I think this was the first time some of the residents met him and it was quite special,” she said.
Mazaleli said he was blown away by the gesture.
“I really didn’t expect anything. I was just doing my job. This is very special for me and I’d like to say thank you to all those who contributed. I’ve forgotten about the incident but I will be ready to do whatever I can to protect the residents if the suspects come back,” he said. No arrests have yet been made in the attempted murder case.
