Comrades road closures-what you need to know

Being an up-run, the race starts at 5.30am outside the Durban City Hall and finishes 12 hours later at the Home of the Golden Horse Casino.

THE Comrades Marathon Association (CMA) has announced that new road closures are in place for Comrades weekend this year, in lieu of the change of finish venue. The annual footrace takes place on Sunday, 4 June.

Being an up-run, the race starts at 5.30am outside the Durban City Hall and finishes 12 hours later at the Home of the Golden Horse Casino, the Scottsville Racecourse.

CMA Race Director, Rowyn James has confirmed the following road closures for Comrades weekend, 3 and 4 June.

“Road closures will take effect from the top of Polly Shortts to CB Downes Road (R103) direction Pietermaritzburg, as well as Gladys Manzi Road (previously Murray Road) and Cleland Road. Blackburrow Road, Fairfield Avenue, Ridge Road, New England Road, Harwin Road and Taylor Street will also be affected.”

Durban  routes

Saturday, 3 June         

  • Dr Pixley Ka Seme Street (West Street) between Dorothy Nyembe Street (Gardiner Street) as well as Samora Machel (Aliwal Street). From 5pm to 7am.

Sunday, 4 June

  • Samora Machel Street (Aliwal Street) between Monty Naicker Street (Pine Street) and Anton Lembede Street (Smith Street)  (midnight to 7am)
  • Sherwood – 45th Cutting (from 4am to 7.30am)
  • Cowies Hill (from 4.30am to 8.30am)
  • Pinetown & Fields Hill (from 4.45am to 9.15am)
  • Kloof (from 5am to 10am)
  • Hillcrest (from 5.30am to 11am)
  • Botha’s Hill (from 5.40am 11.30am)
  • Drummond (from 6am to 12.30am)
  • Cato Ridge (from 7am to 2.30pm)
