PROTEST action is affecting various routes into Durban following a taxi protest this morning. While the South African Taxi Association was given permission to protest peacefully at a strike in Prospecton, several taxi drivers have begun blocking main routes into the City.
According to reports‚ the strike action is to protest against a hike in the cost of the Toyota Quantum.
Several routes, including the N2 south before the uMgeni turn-off, the N2 south near Ballito, the N2 at Galleria, the N3 near the Marianhill toll plaza, West Street , Francois Road and Umbilo Road, as well as Mayville have been affected. The N2 at Joyner Road has been completely closed.
The Durban CBD, including West Street, Smith Street and Brooke Street as well Moore Road have been blocked off. Jan Smuts near Westridge Stadium has also been affected.
The strike comes days after two truck drivers caused havoc on the N2.
