Man dies after eMdloti N2 accident

The N2 had to be closed to allow the helicopter to land.

A MAN has died in hospital following a horrific accident on the N2 near eMdloti on Wednesday morning. The man had to be airlifted to hospital after the taxi protest prevented emergency personnel from getting to him on time. According to Chris Botha of Netcare 911, the accident occurred just before 7am.

“Reports from the scene indicate that a bakkie slammed into the back of a stationary truck. The exact cause will be determined by the SAPS. Three people were trapped in the wreckage of the vehicle, one with life threatening injuries while two were in a serious condition.

“Firemen worked tirelessly to extricate the injured using the Jaws of Life while paramedics from various services worked hand in hand to stabilise them. A passenger in the bakkie was placed on a ventilator at the scene. After the patient was stabilised they spinally immobilised him before he was airlifted to a specialised hospital,” he said.
