THE three men involved in the robbery of the Apache River Spur on Radar Drive on Monday afternoon pretended to be customers. According to Caitlin Naylor of Enforce Security, the men sat down and pretended to choose items from the menu before drawing their weapons.
“Several patrons and staff ran out of the establishment to alert security at the gate. The guards immediately locked the gates preventing the suspects from driving off in their getaway vehicle, a white Toyota. After robbing some of the patrons of their valuables two of the suspects managed to scale the fence at the sports club, while the third, a much larger man, was unable to – he was apprehended on scene.
“The suspects then fired three shots on the road outside the restaurant and hijacked another unsuspecting civilian. When police searched the abandoned getaway vehicle they found false number plates, as well as several house break-in implements including a crowbar and a hammer. The same vehicle was used as a secondary vehicle in the Mayuri’s Jewellers robbery at Chatsworth Centre in March this year,” she said.
The vehicle which was stolen last year was also allegedly used in a house robbery in Durban North recently.
The robbery comes four days after an armed robbery on Cambridge Drive on Friday hundreds of metres from the restaurant.
