Miss Earth representative supports art smart competition

The learner with the best piece of art will win cash prizes to the value of R1 500 for them and R5 000 for their school.

MIREESHA Narsai, the current third runner up of the 2016 Miss Earth South Africa Leadership Programme will join a panel of judges for the Smart Art Competition run by Park Boulevard Centre.

Primary School learners from Durban North were encouraged to participate in this competition which required art to be created from recyclable materials.

The learner with the best piece of art will win cash prizes to the value of R1 500 for them and R5 000 for their school. The addition to the prize, the learner will have their work showcased in the Park Boulevard Centre.

Only 20 finalists will be selected with an overall winner to be announced on World Environment Day, Monday, 5 June.

The winner will then be invited to a prize giving ceremony on World Oceans Day, Thursday, 8 June at 3pm where Miss Earth will accompany the Park Boulevard representatives to award the prizes.

Miss Earth Fire is a qualified civil engineer currently studying towards the completion of her Masters in engineering. For her Masters, Mireesha is focusing on sustainable biofuels and water recycling. She is ecstatic to be involved in this competition as she believes that recycling is an important aspect to helping save the planet.

Centre manager, Elisabeth Pretorius, said, “We decided to host this competition in light of World Environment Day and World Oceans Day where awareness is created about litter and pollution prevention and protection of our environment, which is paramount in starting and keeping a recycling generation.”
