Ready, cook, eat in charity Potjiekos Challenge

The event will be held at Virginia Football Club, Durban North on Friday, 26 May.

GET ready for a feast of flavours on Friday, 26 May, at the Potjiekos Challenge. Local businesses are invited to put down their pens and pick up a potjie pot by entering the cook-off. The competition is to raise funds for the Umzimkhulu Project.

On the day, teams will begin cooking from 11:30am and from 5:30pm it will be open to the public, with the winners of the competition to be announced at 7pm. The challenge will be held at Virginia Football Club, Durban North and will be hosted by the Dante Alighieri Society, Johan Blauww Financial Services (JBFS) and the Mediterranean Shipping Company.

Lucille Fuggle from JBFS said even though the cook-off is a great way for corporates and local businesses to network and team-build, anyone is invited to try and take on the other teams.

“We’re also inviting people to come in the evening to check out the stalls and taste the efforts all the teams. There will be tons of other things for families to do such as listen to live music or take part in a tug-of-war,” she added.

Fuggle said so far, 20 teams had entered the inaugural event.

“It’s the first year in what we want to be an annual competition. We’re hoping to have 40 teams enter by Friday,” she said.
