Eastmans Centre construction nears completion

The project worth R87-million has meant the shopping centre has grown from 1 900m² to 4 700m² of lettable space.

EASTMANS SPAR has undergone a major facelift in the last few years. Now the expansion project is nearing completion with the grand opening of the store being unveiled on Tuesday, 23 May. The project will add and extend a number of stores to the Eastmans Centre, including a hairdresser, two restaurants and a variety of other shops. Gavin East, owner of the centre, said the project worth R87-million has meant the shopping centre has grown from 1 900m² to 4 700m² of lettable space.

There has also been the addition of three parking levels seeing it go from 87 parking bays to 270.

“The project is in response to ongoing demand from our growing customer base. We had inadequate parking facilities and we had outgrown our old premises, the old building was dilapidated and needed work. We wanted a project to uplift the surrounding area.

“The development will bring about a new era for the centre. We’ve had some very positive feedback from customers and residents and we are appreciative of the tolerance and patience of our immediate neighbours who have had to put up with the construction work,” he said.

East added there were still a few finishing touches before the centre would be complete.

“I can confirm that there will be a hairdresser, a gift shop, as well as Caffe Italia. We are hoping to secure a steak restaurant as well as a pharmacy on the premises in the near future,” he said.
