North Coast Road thief caught red-handed

The man was trying to steal engine parts to sell as scrap metal.

A HAPLESS criminal’s attempt to steal engine parts from a car at an auto sales shop didn’t quite go according to plan in the early hours of Thursday morning. The incident unfolded at a store on North Coast Road. The criminal was apprehended by one of the staff members after wedging himself in the engine of a vehicle confirmed Kyle van Reenen of Marshall Security.

“The alarm had gone off and the owner responded and was doing a check around the shop. That’s when he noticed a suspect hiding in an engine compartment of one of the vehicles. He had been wedged in between various components of the engine and was in the process of stripping parts out which we suspect were going to be used to sell to scrap dealers. The thief was arrested by the staff member and Marshall Security. He was handed over to the Greenwood Park SAPS,” he said.
