Attacked animal’s owner calls for by-laws to be followed

There has been a recent spate of dogs who were walked without a leash, attacking people, or in this case, another animal.

A WOMAN whose dog was recently attacked by another dog while walking along the North Beach promenade, is asking for the owners of the pet to come forward.

The attack by a pet that was being walked without a leash, is the latest in a spate of similar incidents around the greater Durban area.

Closer to home, in February, Parkhill residents were once again riled by the alleged killing of a local’s pet cat by a community member’s dogs. Residents claim the owner of the dogs is notorious for walking her pets without a leash and that alleged incidents such as the most recent one, had happened before.

The owner of Baxter, a five year-old rescue dog that was attacked on April 17, Jo-Anne Horn says that she does not want press any charges. She added that she hoped the owners of the attacking dog would ‘do the right thing’.

Horn said that she was walking her four year-old mixed-breed pet, Baxter along between Suncoast and the old Snake Park, when he was bitten on his back leg.

“I don’t know exactly what breed it was and I can’t say I would recognise the couple who owned the dog because it all happened so quickly,” the 37 year-old said. She went on to say that after the other dog released Baxter, he ran away, which lead to an ‘hour and a half’ ordeal where she and Baxter were stuck in a ditch near the intersection of the M4 and Argyle Road.

Horn said that she does not want to go the legal route and press charges against the owners.  “I just wish that people would take the by-laws seriously,” Horn said.
