Glenashley robbery ends in shootout

The suspects remain at large following the shootout on Adrienne Avenue.

APPROXIMATELY 17 shots were exchanged between armed suspects and a Blue Security reaction officer at a house robbery in Adrienne Avenue in Glenashley on Friday night. According to Blue Security’s Andreas Mathios, four suspects stormed the home.

“They derailed the gate to gain access to the property. The family who were at home at the time saw three shadows rushing towards the house, they then ran into a safe room and locked the door. The suspects made off with a TV and various other electronic items. One of the suspects, stationed as a look-out was at the front of the yard when a Blue Security vehicle arrived.

“The suspect, armed with a 9mm handgun opened fire on the officer. The officer was able to fire back and feels he may have hit two suspects. The suspects fired several rounds into the vehicle but thankfully the officer and the family escaped serious injury,” he said.

Police, the neighbourhood watch and several security companies are looking for the suspects who remain at large. The suspects used a white Lexus fitted with false numberplates.
