A TOTAL of 15 bicycles were stolen in a break-in at a shop in Lothian Road in the early hours of Friday morning. The total value of items taken was more than R600 000, confirmed Marshall Security’s, Kyle van Reenen.
“We are unsure how many suspects were involved in the break-in. No one was injured in the incident. In all, 15 bicycles were stolen, two of which we recovered which the suspects had dropped during their escape. We’ve also arrested a suspect believed to have been involved in the break-in. They broke the main window to gain access into the shop. It’s estimated that each bike was valued at more than R50 000,” he said
The theft comes after 20 bicycles were stolen from a Durban cycling academy. Last week, thieves targeted a storage locker at the Cyril Geoghegan Velodrome taking bicycles used for development riders. The total value taken amounts to more than R210 000.
