Man kidnapped and robbed of R55 000 near Sibaya Drive

The victim, a foreign businessman was assaulted in the incident.

A BUSINESSMAN was allegedly kidnapped and robbed by armed men near Sibaya Drive on Monday morning. The incident occurred at about 4.30am. Capt Raymond Deokaran, spokesman for the Durban North SAPS, said the victim was also assaulted by the suspects who used a vehicle with a  fitted blue light to signal him to stop.

“The victim, a foreign national, was travelling from Melmoth and recalls seeing the blue lights flashing on a vehicle behind him as he neared Sibaya Drive. He thought it was the police and stopped his vehicle. He was then accosted by a number of suspects who forced him into the back of the car. They then drove off while assaulting him. Eventually, he was able to jump out of the moving vehicle and get to safety.

“His vehicle, a Toyota Hilux, was later found abandoned in Verulam. The suspects made off with the man’s money, approximately R55 000, which was in his vehicle. No arrests have been made as yet and a case of armed robbery has been opened,” he said.
