One dead, nine injured in North Coast Road crash

Firefighters had to use the jaws-of-life to free the ten people from the wreckage.

TEN people were involved in a crash during the early hours of Sunday morning on North Coast Road (Chris Hani) after a taxi collided with a tree. Firefighters had to use the jaws-of-life to free the injured who were trapped in the taxi that had hit a tree after veering off the road.

According to Netcare 911 spokesperson Chris Botha, “After working to stabilise all the patients from the wreck, unfortunately one person died at the site. Another person was in a critical condition while eight others were seriously injured.”

Botha added that the critical patient had to be placed on a ventilator at the scene. All of the injured were transported to various hospitals for further care.
