Pooches unite for guide dog association

The event is the only dog walk of its kind where your dog is the hero of the hour and ever hero will be presented with a cape.

THE South African Guide Dogs Association for the Blind will be hosting a Dogs Unite for Guide Dogs fundraising walk on Sunday, 23 April at Virginia Beach. The fee is R50 per person and R30 per person walking the dog. Ane Roux, marketing manager for the association said the event, was part of a nationwide effort to raise funds for the organisation

“It’s the first time a national campaign like this will be held across the country. There will be a walk in Johannesburg and Cape Town on the same day as the Durban event. Ultimately, the funds raised on the day will contribute to the important work we do. We are really hoping the community will rally behind us,” Roux said.

“I urge people to book online through iTickets.co.za, because each dog, depending on their size, will have a different sized cape on the day.

The non-profit organisation, was established in 1953.

“We train dogs for people who are visually impaired, service dogs for people who are physically disabled and Autism support dogs for Autistic children. It costs a lot of money and time to train these remarkable guide dogs and service / social dogs over an 18 month period. We want as many people to support what we do so that we can raise more awareness,” she said.
