Armed gang rob Gateway electronics store

The suspects assaulted a security guard in the robbery of the business.

A GANG of armed men robbed an electronics store at Gateway on Thursday night accosting two security guards in the process. According to Capt Raymond Deokaran, spokesman for the Durban North SAPS, the incident unfolded just after 11pm. This is the fourth incident at the mall this year. Last month, a suspect was arrested after a robbery at Arthur Kaplan Jewellers.

In the latest incident, one of the guards was assaulted by the gang. The suspects made off with 19 cell phones, eight MacBook pros, two cell phones belonging to the security guards and the two-way radios used by the guards.

“Five suspects, armed with guns, overpowered two security guards patrolling at the time and dragged them to the store that was robbed. The suspects gained access by forcing open the front door. They stole several items and struck one of the guards over the head with the butt of the gun, he was later taken to hospital. The men used a white Ford Figo as their getaway vehicle,” he said.

No arrests have yet been made.

There was no response from Gateway management at the time of publishing.
