Donate a pair of takkies this Easter weekend

The 5km parkrun will take place along uMhlanga's promenade this Saturday, starting at 8am. The event is free and everyone who takes part will get an Easter egg.

LACE up those takkies and get ready to run for orphans this upcoming Saturday. The Upper Umhlanga Security Trust (UUST), along with parkrun, and uMhlanga Rocks UIP have teamed up for an Easter drive, on 15 April.

People of all ages, sizes, and anything else, are encouraged to participate in Saturday’s parkrun along the uMhlanga promenade. It is a 5km walk/run, starting at 8am from opposite the uMhlanga Pier.

The event is in aid of LIV Village, a long-term cluster foster care model, where children without parents are taken in and raised in a homely communal environment.
Cara Reilly, UIP’s communications manager said, “Community, family and enjoying the outdoors are key elements of the uMhlanga Rocks lifestyle, so getting involved in the Easter drive was an obvious choice. As custodians of public space in the area, we value the work that the UUST does and believe that partnering with them and other like-minded organisations makes for a greater and more caring community.”

People are encouraged to donate a good pair of new or used takkies and socks, which will be given to LIV Village. Donation boxes will be available on-site. UUST’s marketing manager, Carly Jenner said the purpose of asking for takkies, is because it is something the children are in need of.

Every one who takes part will be given an Easter egg at the end of the race, compliments of the UUST and UIP.

The event is free of charge. Should you want to register for free, online beforehand, go to www.parkrun.co.za. Global volunteer organisation, parkrun, hosts free, weekly, 5km timed runs at various locations around the world. The walk/runs are free, open to everyone, and performed at the individual’s pace.
