School tour bus stolen in Durban

The bus was later recovered in KwaMashu.

A SCHOOL bus which was stolen in the Durban area was recovered by members of Cartrack earlier this morning. It’s believed the Johannesburg-based school, who the bus belongs to, were on a sports tour in the province. It was later recovered by the ground and helicopter team of the tracking company.

Jerry Pierce, Cartrack group head of operations, said the bus was taken around 7.45am on Wednesday morning.

“The control room received a notification that the vehicle had been stolen and immediately dispatched its air and ground crews. The bus was positioned in the Inanda area and secured within 20 minutes by which stage the suspects had already fled. The school bus was fitted with a Cartrack unit which resulted in its speedy location and recovery.”

The vehicle had been abandoned outside a fast food restaurant outside Bridge City in KwaMashu.

According to reports, the lock on the doors and the ignition of the bus were damaged in the theft. No arrests have been made as yet.

Northglen News requested for a comment from the provincial police, however no comment has been forthcoming.
