The Sharks have taken a light-hearted approach to explaining the high tackle rule and have even shared a video showing how the rule works.
MOST Sharks fans were fuming after some controversial referring decisions went against the team in their loss to the Lions in a Super Rugby clash over the weekend. However, South Africa’s favourite mascot, Sharkie and Rhino, and The Sharks have taken a light-hearted approach to explaining the high tackle rule and have even shared a video showing how the rule works.
There was some controversy this weekend over a few decisions in our match against the Lions.
In a post shared on their Facebook page yesterday, The Sharks said: “We thought it would be worthwhile to help #OurSharks fans understand the rule and its interpretation.”
Rule 10.4.(e)
- Dangerous tackling. A player must not tackle an opponent early, late or dangerously.
Sanction: Penalty kick
- A player must not tackle (or try to tackle) an opponent above the line of the shoulders even if the tackle starts below the line of the shoulders. A tackle around the opponent’s neck or head is dangerous play.
Sanction: Penalty kick
- Any contact above the shoulder line is deemed to be “dangerous” .
