MEC addresses Maritime graduates

The Maritime Centre of Excellence provides training for careers in the maritime industry.

STUDENTS of the KZN Sharks Board Maritime Centre of Excellence (MCoE), graduated Friday. The event was held at the KZN Sharks Board Headquarters Hall in uMhlanga.  More than 100 students received certificates for maritime skills ranging from Freight Forwarding Customs and Compliance to Learn to swim.

Sihle Zikalala, the MEC for Economic Development, Tourism and Environmental Affairs,  gave the key note address. MEC Zikalala enouraged the students not to stop learning, telling them, “You study as if you are going to live forever, but you work as if you are going to die tomorrow”.

The MEC also spoke about the untapped resources of the blue economy, and the need for maritime skills which the centre was providing. “We must unlock the potential and the economic opportunities that come with access to the sea. KwaZulu-Natal has the ocean, and we must utilise it as one of those economic drivers that can enhance growth of the economy,” Zikalala said.

The MCoE is an accredited training institution of the KZN Sharks Board, that provides skills and training to people for careers in the maritime industry.
