THE blood drive hosted by Our Lady of Fatima Dominican Convent School has been hailed as a success. The school, which had set a goal of 100 pints of blood to be collected on the day, collected 90 pints. According to the South African National Blood Service (SANBS) the province has dropped to below two days supply. Caitlin Slade, one of the learners and organisers of the drive said she was thrilled with the turnout.
“I’m very pleased and humbled by the response. My fellow learners have been amazing, so have the staff and parents who attended today. We had 113 people who registered but not everyone could donate for different reasons. We were able to collect 90 pints of blood which is awesome. My mom and dad are frequent supporters of the SANBS and have always donated blood, they set the example for me. We know that blood saves lives and it is our responsibility to support the SANBS. If people missed out today, I urge them to go to the Kensington Square blood donor clinic to donate blood,” Slade said.
