Durban North blood clinic ‘closure’ not true says SANBS

SANBS has no intention of closing its Durban North blood donor clinic.

DENNIS Ngongoma, public relations practitioner at the South African National Blood Service (SANBS) said the reports circulating about the closure of the Durban North blood donor at Kensington Square are not true. He said a post being shared on social media, though sent out to highlight the blood shortage, was mis-communicated.

“The person who initially sent out the message had good intentions, however the message may have been mis-communicated. The blood clinic will not be closing its doors. We must admit the clinic has not been performing well but it will not close its doors. The clinic is vital to the area.

“Currently our blood stocks are below two days supply and we desperately need donations. With the start of the school holidays this Friday, we are in dire need of donations. The greatest needs for blood are for patients who are terminally ill and rely on daily, if not weekly transfusions for their survival. We need more donors from all blood groups and types,” he said.
