WATCH: Two injured in La Lucia fire
One of the patients sustained 40 per cent burns to his body.
TWO people have been treated after a fire broke out at a home in La Lucia just before lunchtime today. According to Netcare 911’s Chris Botha, an 86-year-old woman was treated for smoke inhalation, while her son was treated for burns to his face, chest and arms.
“Paramedics arrived at the scene and found the house and garage engulfed in flames. A man sustained 40 per cent burns while and 86-year-old female suffered from smoke inhalation. Paramedics stabilised the injured at the scene before they transported them to a local hospital,” Botha said.
It’s unclear how the fire started, but reports from the scene indicate that the La Lucia resident was working on a vehicle in the garage when the fire began. The fire destroyed the garage and a large part of the house.
According to Bheki Hadebe, divisional commander of the Umhlanga Fire Department, firefighters were able to bring the blaze under control.
“We managed to stop the fire from spreading. We are still assessing the damage done to the home,” he said.
