THE case of the man accused of killing two cyclists on the M4 has been adjourned until April. Omesh Ramnarain is on trial on charges of drunk driving and culpable homicide for the deaths of Richard Da Silva, 46, and Jared Dwyer, 36. The duo were part of a group of around 30 cyclists from the Kings Park Cycling Club in February last year when disaster struck.
Da Silva’s life partner, Sonya Ferreira, said she was frustrated by the postponement but hoped justice would take its course.
“Pain is my constant visitor. Richard was my soulmate, in the true sense of the word and he was ripped away from me. I can’t determine what action is taken by the court but I hope to use Richard and Jared’s passing as a platform for other families who have lost loves ones to drunk drivers,” she said.
Ramnarain allegedly knocked Da Silva and Dwyer down on the M4 highway and was arrested by police.
Hundreds of cyclists took part in a mass cycle to pay tribute to the duo a week after their deaths. Several cycling clubs have agreed to a no cycling zone on the M4 following the tragedy.
