Thieves steal Rotary club’s trailer, equipment

The Rotary Club of Durban North are requesting for the public to be on the lookout for the trailer which was used to generate sales for charity.

THE Rotary Club of Durban North fell victim to thieves on Monday evening when the service club’s trailer filled with equipment was stolen from the Durban North Hypermarket parking lot. The Rotary Club of Durban Umgeni have been using the trailer, selling boerewors rolls at the Hypermarket since about 1983.

The trailer has been stored at the Hypermarket for the past five years with no incidents. Rotarians are sharing the story on social media to spread the word about the missing equipment, in the hopes that it will be recovered.

According to Alma Maxwell, of the Rotary Club, eyewitnesses spotted the thieves in a white bakkie.

“Eyewitnesses said that they saw two men in a white bakkie drive off with the trailer in the direction of Durban North. The trailer had ‘Rotary Club of Durban Umgeni’ painted on the sides. Pots, utensils, a gazebo as well as two gas bottles were taken with the trailer.

“Our club recently took over the trailer from Umgeni Rotary Club and started selling boerewors rolls two weeks ago to raise funds for our community,” she said.
