M4 axe murderer sentenced, 2 life terms

One of the murdered victims was dumped on the M4 highway.

A MAN has been convicted and sentenced to two life sentences for two killings he committed in April last year. According to provincial SAPS spokesman, Lieutenant Colonel Thulani Zwane the murders were committed near Suncoast Casino and Stalwart Simelane Street.

Londani Xulu, 38, was arrested in Inanda, and the murder weapons, an axe and a plank, were recovered on the same day.

“In April last year we found a body of a man on the M4 highway near the casino. The body had injuries to the back of the head. A case of murder was opened at Durban Central police station. Another incident was reported on 26 April, on Stalwart Simelane Street where another man was found with serious injuries. He was struck with an axe to the head and taken to hospital where he later died.

“Through police investigation, Londani Xulu was traced, tracked and arrested at Umzinyathi area, Inanda. An axe and a plank used in the killings were recovered together with blood-stained clothing. The DNA results were positive on the clothing that was found and it was discovered that it is the same clothing he wore during the commission of crime. He was successfully convicted and sentenced to life imprisonment for each murder,” Zwane said.
