WIN: Tickets to McIlroy’s Comedy Masterclass

Aaron McIlroy says, 'Laughter is the best medicine'.

DURBAN North’s Aaron McIlroy is back with a show that won four major accolades at the 2016 Durban Theatre Awards, including the coveted Production of the Year award. The show, Comedy Masterclass affords audiences a rare and hilarious peek into what goes on backstage, as the – star of Abbamaniacs, The Loser, The Ranga and a host of other hits – delves into the science that underpins the world’s oldest coping mechanism, ‘a sense of humour’.

Co-written by McIlroy and Patrick Kenny, and directed by Kenny, the production takes the audience on a surreal, comedic roller-coaster ride into the world of laughter, where the rules are subjective and what one person finds funny another may cringe at.

Why do we find things funny?

McIlroy answers: “Something is often funny because it captures a moment, it contains an element of truth as seen from a new angle, it is something that we have always known and yet are hearing it out loud for the first time. I think that our need to feel intelligent comes into play a lot in finding things funny. Laughter is the best medicine.”

Comedy Masterclass is on for one week only from Tuesday, 21 March to Sunday, 26 March at the Elizabeth Sneddon Theatre . Book now at Computicket. Call 0861 915 8000 or book online at www.computicket.com.
