THE story of the Thula Thula Rhino Orphanage attack has resonated around the world and has even been condemned by the International Fund for Animal Welfare (IFAW). Two rhinos were killed in front of staff while a female staff member was sexually assaulted, while other rhino caregivers were beaten.
The two rhinos‚ Impi and Gugu‚ were attacked while the staff were being held hostage. One of the rhinos was later euthanised due to the severity of her injuries.
Monday night’s attack has hit hard for a Glenhills resident, Warren McAllister, who is a volunteer at the orphanage. Since last year, he has helped to raise funds to increase the security at the sanctuary. He said this was not only to provide better protection for the rhinos against the poachers but also to assist the men and women who are sacrificing their lives to protect these priceless animals.
Broken hearted hearing about Thula Thula Rhino Orphanage. The loss guts me. Please send love and light to the people and animals affected.
