Armed men storm uMhlanga home, shoot at officer

The suspects used a white Ford ST in the robbery.

A GANG of five men stormed a home on Ridge Road late on Friday afternoon. According to reports, the suspects, who were armed, used a white Ford Focus in the robbery.

According to Blue Security, the  armed response officer was lucky to escape uninjured. Operations manager for the company, Brian Jackson said the armed response officer had disturbed the gang at the scene.

“The gang held up the domestic worker at gunpoint. They ripped a safe off the wall. The safe contained jewellery, cash and gold coins. Our officer then arrived on the scene, disturbing the gang, which jumped into a white Ford Focus and fled the scene. They fired a shot at his vehicle as they sped off towards the M4 freeway,” he said.

According to Kyle van Reenen of Marshall Security, the domestic worker pushed the panic button when she saw the gang enter the property.

“The men broke down the security gate before kicking in the door. They proceeded into the house and stole a safe as well as jewellery. The domestic worker, though unharmed, needed trauma counselling following the robbery,” he said.
