WATCH: Snake man, Jason Arnold finds 6 pythons sunbathing

Video shows large number of rock pythons sunning themselves on cliff-edge.

DURBAN North snake man, Jason Arnold has shared a video that he captured of six large African rock pythons on a cliff edge in Osindesweni, north of uMhlanga. Arnold said he was trying to catch and relocate a large python which had been plaguing the community when he came across the incredible scene.

The video which was shot in September was recently uploaded onto YouTube.

“The python was apparently responsible for eating some of the community’s goats. The python needed to be relocated otherwise the community would kill it. A few unsuccessful visits proved that there was more than one python, and being the month of September, I knew this was because they had congregated to mate.

“During one of my visits on a rather cold, windy day with a bit of light morning rain, I trekked along the cliff line to where the snakes were hiding out and was pleasantly surprised to sneak up to and witness six pythons all out at once, some trying to mate with the large female, while others were just laying close by, absorbing the odd bit of sunshine that beamed through as the clouds blew over. Unfortunately two of the pythons were quick to sense me getting nearer, and took off into a deep crevice within the cliffline before I could start recording. It was an unforgettable experience,” Arnold said.
