Keep it clean – pet owners urged to pick up after their dogs

Locals who use Crusaders grounds are irate at having to avoid "landmines" when walking in the afternoons.

MOUNDS of dog poo left by irresponsible dog owners walking their pooches at Crusaders Sports Clubs is causing a stir. So much so that the management of the popular club are now considering policing dog walkers to ensure that they follow the rules.

The managing member of the popular Durban North Sports Club, Karl Dauth told the Northglen News that they planned to ‘maintain the club rules’.
Dauth was responding after a Durban North resident, Leanne Beard Smith took to Facebook to voice her concern about dog walkers who do not pick up after their dogs have made a poo on the grounds.

Leanne Beard Smith said: “As a walker who uses Crusaders daily, to walk and get fit (as it is safe), please, the poo issue is getting out of hand. All if you who walk your dogs, do you carry a bag to pick up their poo? I have to step over, dodge and avoid landmines every day! You can’t tell me you can’t see your dog arch its back and squat.”

She went on to say that it was ‘disgusting to have to step over and around these poo’s on around and alongside both fields, aside from having flies bugging you while you are trying to just stay fit and walk’.

Dauth said:  “A concerned community group of dog walkers, who do not want to lose the right to walk their dogs at Crusaders, have expressed the desire to become members of Crusaders Club and assist in controlling and monitoring the dog walking community. They have offered to manage their members, to encourage non-members, to join and help maintain the club rules.”
