Criminals target VW Polos in Durban North

The theft cases have been widespread across the Durban North policing precinct.

DURBAN North SAPS has warned VW Polo owners to be vigilant and extra cautious about where they park their cars. This comes after a spike in the number of car thefts in the Durban North area in the past week. According to Capt Raymond Deokaran, station spokesman, the number of car thefts began increasing last week with a total of six cases being reported.

“We average 10 car thefts a month, but at the moment we are having three to four car thefts a week. The criminals seem to particularly be targeting VW Polos. We’ve seen a number of cases in Durban North. The theft cases have been widespread, outside homes, at malls, and from residents’ yards. I urge residents, if they can, to park their cars in their garages or behind locked gates,” Deokaran said.
