Councillor cleans-up intersection

Residents had complained about the rubbish dump for several months.

FOR the last few months, rubbish dumped on a middle island at the intersection of Malacca Road and Northgate Place has been left to decompose and rot. According to ward 110 councillor, Pete Graham, several residents had complained about the eyesore which included garden refuse as well as several parcels of decomposing food.

“There were maggots the size of my finger as well as flies buzzing around morsels of food and the smell was unbearable. Residents have complained about this dumping site for several months, I’ve also sent numerous emails to the City which have gone unanswered. The concerning thing is the dump is less than a kilometre away from this.

“I decided to enlist the help of my gardener and clean-up the island which we did in in less than hour. I took the rubbish to the dump site and disposed. Unfortunately we weren’t able to remove a large tree trunk which was also dumped on the middle island. That would need specialist equipment,” he said.
