Glenhills TV dumping angers CPF chairman

More than 15 televisions were dumped in two sections on Ryde Place.

THE concrete palisade fence erected along the length of Malacca Road and Ryde Place in Glenhills last year has done little to curb the illegal dumping that continues unabated. This week, Greenwood Park CPF chairman, Robin Candy, said he was shocked to find more than 15 TVs dumped in two sections on the road.

“While we have seen a pleasing reduction in the dumping of household refuse over the past two years, we have unfortunately seen an increase in contractors and businesses dumping their rubbish in the bush. These TVs have definitely been dumped by somebody repairing them. These are local people and it’s unacceptable behaviour from the business community. There are tubes, casings and various other parts of televisions dumped on both sides of the road,” Candy said.

“This was certainly done after hours, the dump closes just after 5pm and people are too lazy and just dump things at night. I’ve also found more than 40 sealed packets of see-through plastic bags dumped in the same place. I have contacted one business already which had dumped reams of documents in the area, they promptly cleaned the area up two days later,” he said.

Candy added the area around the Malacca Road Informal Settlement was also an ongoing problem and urged anyone going to the dump not to stop and allow the people to pull things out of cars and bakkies.

“If anyone has metal containing items, or other items of value to give the people they should do so separately. Unfortunately as long as unscrupulous litter bugs continue to use this area as a dump, the problem will continue. I’m warning residents who continue to offload rubbish outside the dump that they will be prosecuted,” he said.
