Artists give back to SPCA

The exhibition raised R32 000 for the Durban & Coast SPCA.

THE Art Givers’ Art Exhibition held over the festive period at La Lucia Mall raised R32 000 for the Durban & Coast SPCA. The exhibition which has been running for the past 14 years has always supported the animal organisation with a portion of paintings sold at the exhibition being donated to the SPCA.

Christina Godfrey, a local artist and driving force behind the exhibition said the funds raised showed how much local residents cared about animals.

“It is the love of animals that unites all the residents. We host two exhibitions a year and I think the exhibition offers local artists a chance to showcase their talent but also give back to the SPCA. We have a lot of people who browse through the exhibition and still donate which is fantastic. I must thank the mall and Cindene (Sheasby) who is so accommodating and always has time for us,” Godfrey said.

Lindsey Concer of the Durban & Coast SPCA said she was blown away by the donation.

“The local community have such heart and any donation we receive is welcomed. This will go towards the general upkeep of the organisation. We receive no state funding and are reliant on the community we serve, we are just blown away by the generosity of everyone,” Concer said.

Cindene Sheasby, marketing manager of La Lucia Mall, said the exhibition is the highest fundraising event.

“It’s very pleasing to see how residents and shoppers support the exhibition. It’s our highest fundraising event and we hope to see it growing from strength to strength. I think the exhibition adds to the festive shopping experience,” she said.
