WATCH: Glenhills gate motor thief caught on camera

There have been more than 30 incidents reported in the area.

CHAIRMAN of the Greenwood Park Community Policing Forum (CPF), Robin Candy, believes one man is behind a spate of gate motor thefts in the North Durban area. The alleged thief, who was caught on camera, attempted to steal a gate motor from Candy’s home but is scared off by a siren triggered by a gate alarm.

In the video, the man can be seen holding a gate motor with another one on his back. There have been more than 30 incidents of gate motor thefts in the North Durban area.

“On the night of the attempted theft in December, there had been four other incidents, on Longwoods Drive and Bougainvillaea Drive that same evening. I believe the man is selling this to someone who then resells it. There is definitely a market for it.

“He is professional, he manages to steal the motor within minutes. The thief operates between midnight and 4am. He is always on foot but I believe he has accomplices who either drop him off or pick him up in the area. I urge residents to install a security bracket and anti lift bracket to protect their gate motors,” he said.
