Hijacking leads to high-speed chase and shootout

The suspects remain at large following the hijacking which took place in Durban North.

A DURBAN North hijacking led to a high-speed chase and shooting on the M25 highway earlier today. According to Kyle van Reenen, of Marshall Security, the hijacking occurred on Roehampton Way at about 12pm. He added officers were alerted to the hijacking by a local WhatsApp group.

“Two armed suspects hijacked a female driver of her white Volkswagen Polo and fled at high speed. Armed reaction officers spotted the vehicle on Chris Hani (North Coast) Road and a high speed chase ensued onto the M25 Kwamashu Highway. The driver of the hijacked vehicle began driving erratically, sideswiping another motorist, in an attempt to evade arrest, before losing control of the vehicle at high speed and colliding with a concrete barrier.

“One of the suspects produced a firearm and a shoot-out ensued. The two suspects abandoned the vehicle and fled on foot into nearby dense bushes. A call was made for the assistance of the South African Police Services K9 unit and a search was conducted, however both suspects remain at large,” he said.
