Support Husky Rescue food drive

The Redhill resident is appealing to the North Durban community to help donate to the cause.

FARRAH Khan Maharajh has begun a food drive for Husky Rescue KZN. The 31-year-old Redhill resident is the founder of Feeding the Furballs, a non-profit organisation (NPO) and PBO (public benefit organisation) which provides rescue animals and rescue organisations with food and supplies.

Husky Rescue KZN rescues stray and unwanted huskies. They treat, rehabilitate, sterilise, microchip and foster huskies until they can find appropriate homes for them. According to the rescue, they are one of the most euthanized breeds because of their inability to cope with confinement for long periods.

Farrah explained one of the main reasons huskies are abandoned is people do not research the nature of this breed adequately before owning one.

“The breed is highly sort after but their needs are not understood which leads to so many huskies being abandoned. People often take ownership of these dogs because of their unique looks – only to discover very soon that they require hard work and dedication,” she explained.

“Ideally for the drive, we would like to raise enough funds to purchase 400 kilograms, which is a month’s supply of food at the rescue. We have been working with husky rescue KZN for the past five years and hope to collect as much as possible,” she said.

If you would like to get involved in the drive, you can either drop off tins of dog food to the Spade Design Centre on Lothian Road or sponsor a kilogram of dry food for R16. The closing date for the drive is 14 March.
