WATCH: Briardene sewage leak fears fall on deaf ears

Some children in the settlement have broken out in rashes which residents say is because of the sewage running through the street.

RESIDENTS of Briardene Informal Settlement have once again expressed their unhappiness over the sewage leak that has been plaguing their community for more than six months. Some children living in the settlement have also broken out in rashes which residents say is because of the waste water flooding homes and roads.

In recent months, during heavy downpours, the sewage pipes clog up forcing the overflow into residents’ homes. Added to that, the constant stream has weakened the structure of one of the main roads in the settlement to a point where almost half of the road has been washed away. Residents fear if the leak isn’t contained, the road may collapse entirely.
