Triathlon to set Summer ablaze

The event also doubles as the local KZN Triathlon Championships.

THE Everysun Triathlon due to take place at Midmar Dam next Sunday 15 January, will start the new year off with a bang for all those triathletes and multi-sport enthusiasts alike. The Triathlon Event which also doubles as the local KZN Triathlon Championships will see athletes in all shapes and sizes converge on the KZN Midlands for a day of fun in the sun.

There are distances that cater for all the athletes with ages ranging from 10 years right up to the 65 year old stalwarts. Proceedings get underway on race morning at 7am at Midmar Dam with a Youth Event that comprises a 400m swim, 10km cycle and 2.5km run. A manageable distance that is held within the confines of the dame resort, making the cycle leg, once of the safest in the country. A perfect event for the youngsters to dip their toes into the sport of triathlon. Any bike is welcome and besides a helmet, costumes and running shoes, any of the youngsters entered can complete the event.

Next up is the Sprint distance Triathlon which comprises a 750m swim/20km cycle and 5km run. This is for the fun triathlete looking to compete over a distance that is short, fast and fun. The more serious triathletes/weekend warriors will take on the Olympic Distance Triathlon which is a 1.5km swim/40km cycle and 10km run

Henri Schoeman, local and Olympic Bronze Medallist at Triathlon has confirmed his entry into this great event. Apart from Henri, some of the local top triathletes will be plying their trade up at Midmar next weekend as the triathlon season gets into full swing in January.
