Durban North resident hijacked, robbed of R400 000

The suspects were carrying large calibre rifles in the robbery.

A LOCAL resident was hijacked by two men carrying large calibre rifles on Fairway on Tuesday night. It is believed the woman was carrying R400 000 in cash. According to Capt Raymond Deokaran, spokesman for the Durban North SAPS, the businesswomen was on her way home after closing her business in Clairwood when she was confronted.

“The suspects, who were driving a silver BMW, cut the resident off just metres away from her home on Fairway. Two men jumped out with guns thought to be AK47s or R5s. They demanded the woman exit the car. They then hijacked the vehicle, a Mercedes and sped off. The suspects abandoned the vehicle at the end of the road and took a large amount of cash from the resident’s car. At this stage we are still investigating the case and chasing up on leads,” he said.

Two weeks ago, a Chinese national was followed to a bank in Springfield Park where he was robbed of more than R90 000.
