AS the festive season draws to an end, many will be making their way back to their home towns. Here is a list of safety tips issued by one of the country’s biggest ambulance services, Netcare 911. Before embarking on your journey back home, conduct the following safety checks on your vehicle:
– Ensure all your lights are working
– Check if your vehicle has a spare tyre
– Assess the water, oil and other liquid levels
– Ensure that your car licence and driver’s licence are up to date
– Make sure the brakes function properly
– Pack a basic toolbox when you travel for emergency maintenance
– Check the tread and condition of tyres
– Make sure all windows and mirrors are clean and undamaged
While on the road, follow these tips:
-Stop often, rest and stretch your legs. Always stop in well lit, public places
-Never drive under the influence of alcohol or drugs
-Stick to the speed limit and always wear your seat belt
-Babies and small children should always be secured in a child car seat
