Buddying FB group lends helping hand

The Facebook page is a dedicated page where people from local communities can publish and share posts regarding lost or missing pets.

IT has been a year since the launch of the Facebook initiative, called Here Buddy. The initiative was started by Sunningdale resident, Tyron Powell, who said animal welfare was a passion close to his heart.

The page, was designed to function as a dedicated page where people from local communities could publish and share posts regarding lost or missing pets. Powell said the page was inspired by his love of animals.

“Originally we had been sharing posts of missing animals onto our official Marshall Security Facebook page, however we found that there were just too many missing pets to post, so we formed Here Buddy. It’s for animal lovers and was created in the hopes of reuniting people with their fur babies. We’ve had so many success cases where owners and their pets have been reunited. Through this initiative we’ve really seen the power of social media,” he said.

The group has already had more than 1 000 likes and Powell hopes the initiative grows from strength to strength.

Last year, Powell also created a WhatsApp group called Durban North Animal Rescue. However, the group was created to provide immediate response and assistance to animals in distress, said Powell.
