70-year-old resident bitten on uMhlanga Beach
The man was allegedly bitten by a Great Dane that was off its leash.
A 70-YEAR-OLD man has urged residents to have their dogs on leash at all times. This comes after he was bitten by a Great Dane, who was not on a leash, on uMhlanga Beach near the Lagoon on Friday afternoon. According to DeWet Geldenhuys of the uMhlanga Urban Improvement Precinct (UIP), the resident said he did not want to make a big deal of the attack.
“He was near the Lagoon when a woman with two Great Danes, who weren’t on leashes, was walking. One of the dogs reared up and bit him on the hand. He told us he does not want to ban dogs on the beach because he loves them but urged residents to have their dogs on leashes. We all want our dogs to have the freedom to run around but the by-laws state dogs should be on leashes at all times.
“He wasn’t seriously injured and we are urging residents to either have their dogs on leashes or to put a muzzle on dogs, if they are aggressive. He was helped by lifeguards and treated on scene,” he said.
In June this year, an 82-year-old was attacked by a dog on a leash on uMhlanga Beach.
