Thousands of unroadworthy vehicles impounded, suspended

Check your tyres, wipers, brakes and steering column to confirm it is in a proper and functioning state before embarking on a trip.

A TOTAL of 871 motor vehicles were suspended and a further 154 were impounded by traffic law enforcement officers from 23 to 27 December.

This brings the total number of suspended motor vehicles to 5 349 and impounded vehicles to 2 133 since the start of the festive period from 1 December. These figures were released earlier today in a statement on the Road Traffic Management Corporation‘s Facebook page.

The vehicles were suspended and impounded for not being roadworthy and will not be allowed to be driven until all the identified defects have been repaired.

Motorists are encouraged to avoid having their vehicles impounded or suspended by ensuring that their vehicles are in a roadworthy state before embarking on any journey.

Check your tyres, wipers, brakes and steering column to confirm it is in a proper and functioning state. Windscreens must be free of major cracks and the car should not emit excessive smoke.

Also avoid excessive overloading of goods as this could lead to the impoundment of motor vehicles.
