Hope’s Closet enjoys success

A closet of hope that spreads love to the needy.

Glenashley-based pre-loved clothing shop, Hope’s Closet, has enjoyed success since it opened its doors on 1 December. Run by local resident, Melissa Gibson, Hope’s Closet invites residents in the area to donate pre-loved clothing that will be sold with the proceeds from the sales going towards charity ventures.

Gibson said she’s managed to raise funds from the sales thus far and next week, will be going to buy various items for girls in need. The girls have been identified already by npo, One Future Foundation. The foundation has feeding drives for people live in the Point area and along the Durban beachfront. They also collect food and clothing for people living on the streets.

“We will be buying sanitary pads and underwear for the girls. We will be making up the parcels and are going to deliver them just in time for Christmas. The visitors at the shop have all been so lovely and most of them have brought donations of clothing and other items when they come to the shop,” Gibson said.

At the moment, the store is open for those who make a prior appointment but Gibson added that once her close friend, Vashti Downs, moves closer, they will set more opening times. Downs is also a part of One Future Foundation and it is through her that Gibson came to learn more about the plight of those living on the streets.
