WATCH: Police take down knife-wielding man in Durban

The armed man chased other motorists and Metro Police officers who tried to diffuse the situation.

A SHOCKING video showing a knife-wielding man take on members of the SAPS and Metro Police in Durban has gone viral. Police came face-to-face with the man who pulled out a kitchen knife and chased several motorists caught up in the incident – the man was later arrested. The incident occurred at the intersection of Sandile Thusi Road and the M4 Ruth First Highway.

It’s believed it may be road-rage related. A passing motorist captured the entire incident on video. The man was wielding a large knife when he was confronted by a group of police officers who tried to calm him down and lower his weapon. The man refused and chased civilians and police officers around a car while brandishing his knife.

Members from SAPS Central Durban as well as Metro cops then tackled the man to the ground after he was distracted.

Metro Police spokesperson Sbonelo Mchunu, confirmed the man had been arrested.

“Thankfully no one was injured in the incident. We are not sure what the incident was about. The man was charged with resisting arrest and violent conduct,” he said.
